How To Prepare For Laser Hair Removal
Waxing and shaving your hair may be something that you're used to, but wouldn't it be nice if you could shave some time off of your daily routine? Imagine not having to deal with unwanted hair at all (or at least very rarely). With laser hair removal, your esthetician will target each individual hair follicle which will help to kill it. The result is smoother, almost hair-free skin. One of the best things that you can do to get optimal results from laser hair removal is to prepare properly.
Avoid Artificial and Natural Suntanning
Whether you like to lay out in the sun or you like to use sunless tanner, both of these things should be avoided for about six weeks leading up to your laser hair removal session. Why? Because both of these things can cause the laser to lighten your skin during treatment.
Do Not Pluck or Tweeze
One thing that's good to know about laser hair removal is that you can shave before you get it done. In fact, shaving should be fine to do even a day or two leading up to your treatment. Why? Because it doesn't actually touch your hair follicles, but just the hair above the skin. You should, however, avoid plucking or tweezing the hair that's going to be treated with laser because when you pluck a hair, you are interfering with the hair follicle. When you disrupt the growth cycle of your hair by messing with the hair follicle, it's going to take a lot longer for your esthetician to target it and may require more treatments than the average patient.
Wear comfortable, Appropriate Clothing
Although your doctors office will probably have a medical gown that you can change into, try to dress appropriately depending on your treatment and the weather. For instance, if you are getting your legs lasered, then wearing shorts may be helpful so that you don't have to change, but if it's snowing outside that may not be an option. Also, try to wear loose fitting clothing if possible because your skin may be a bit tender after treatment and tight fitting clothing may make it feel worse.
Don't Wear Lotions, Creams, Perfume, or Deodorant
Wearing things like lotions, perfumes, creams, or deodorant on the area that is being treated may interfere with treatment overall. If you shower right before you go into the office for treatment, make sure to rinse everything off and to not apply anything new to the skin before you go in.
